O2 relaunches dedicated music portal

22 October 2004

O2, the leading mobile communications provider, is continuing to stake its claim on the mobile music market, with the recent relaunch of their dedicated music portal.

Aimed at 15-35 year olds the portal has been designed by leading brand and digital consultancy, Rufus Leonard.

O2 were first to market with a music ‘over the air’ download service in the UK with the launch of their MP3 player - The Digital Music Player - which uses the GPRS network to buy tracks from an extensive catalogue. The music portal has been recreated to integrate their music offering online, support the use of the DMP and to promote a range of other digital MP3/phone devices. In addition the site boasts exclusive artist information, details of tracks and upcoming events, along with a wide range of ringtones and wallpapers for users to download.

Designed by Rufus Leonard for maximum ease of use and enjoyment, the site has been created as an online resource to fully support and enhance O2’s digital music offer. It has been designed to be instantly recognisable as part of O2’s integrated approach to digital music.

Megan Forster, Music Marketing Manager at O2, commented: 'Rufus Leonard has created a portal that seamlessly extends and adds to our existing music offer. Music plays a really important role in the lives of our target 15-35 year old audience and we feel this site provides them with the range of information, services, tracks and downloads they are looking for.'

Susan Costello, Client Partner at Rufus Leonard, said, 'We have worked with O2 on a number of projects. Developing the music portal has been a particularly fun and fulfilling campaign. We are delighted with the site's content, functionality and just how simple and easy it is to use.'

Rufus Leonard is responsible for the design, build, management and hosting of the music portal.
