Netimperative - 19 February 2007
Mining and exploration firm Rio Tinto has launched its global website following a seven-month project with digital agency Rufus Leonard.
Rufus implemented the technical elements of the site architecture, design, build and testing, including its first implementation of the RedDot CMS (Content Management System) 7.
The integration will improve site performance, automate previously manual updates and save on internal management and control costs.
Applications were integrated with investor relations feeds, a Google mini search facility and email newsletter subscriptions. RedDot CMS enables non-technical staff to easily create and upload their own content and Rufus Leonard is also providing CMS training to Rio Tinto staff and its training agency.
Bryan Smith, Principal adviser, digital media at Rio Tinto commented: "The fact that we are now managing website content that previously would have been outsourced makes for heightened efficiency and our both visitors and staff will benefit from the site's improved performance. We feel we have seen advantages from the co-ordinated approach of the Rufus team and their experience with RedDot implementations."
Rio Tinto finds, mines and processes the earth's mineral resources including aluminium, copper, diamonds, energy products, gold, industrial minerals and iron ore.
