Team Rufus Leonard scale new heights

24 July 2007

The 2007 Microsoft Challenge was set to the backdrop of the Peak District. In one of the wettest summers in history our team hit the hills with a will and determination to do well.

The lead up to the Challenge took the usual form of gruelling training out on the streets of London and in the gym. A weekend in the Peak District had also been thrown in for good measure, to acclimatise the team with the terrain and weather, although a quick dip in any swimming pool would have been just as good!

There had also been the team effort of raising money for the NSPCC, MSC’s dedicated charity. The big Rufus Leonard night at the races provided both the opportunity to raise money and have a whole lot of fun. In addition the now infamous RL microsite (www.rufusleonard.com/microsoftchallenge2007) was set up with guides to the teams training and sponsorship opportunities. Over five and a half thousand pounds has now been raised for the NSPCC.

Taking on the Challenge were four new members of our team and the others were relying on experience from the previous two years to improve on our strategy in each stage.

The first night stage had the teams taking to the mountain bikes and heading off in search of check points – returning within three hours and all in one piece the team had a flying start. The next two days saw them running, kayaking and more biking in event packed stages. With a couple of mental challenges thrown in for good measure the team returned to the studio in London feeling thoroughly exhausted but in 70th place (out of 122 teams) beating last years place, they were very proud.
