Over £5,500 raised for the NSPCC

11 July 2006

Our annual participation in the Microsoft Challenge and a special party have both contributed to a charity drive by Rufus Leonard for the NSPCC children’s charity.

The Microsoft Challenge is a nonstop all-out test of body and mind. However, there is far more to it than just four days in Scotland. The preparation is a real commitment that takes time, effort and dedication. Twice a week the Rufus Leonard team would hit the streets of London in an effort to build muscles and train the mind to go that extra mile.

Part of the fiendish genius of the Microsoft Challenge is the way, every year, they turn it on its head. No matter how well prepared you are it's always full of surprises – like a 3.30am start for a full day of physical challenges concluding with an hour of memory games at 11pm, when we were at our most vulnerable. Just staying awake at that stage was a challenge in itself!

This year, again, the finale was an emotional affair. After discovering our team captain's hidden talent for 'caber tossing' we sprinted down the beach to a thunderous applause from fellow competitors and locals. It was truly exhilarating - as was the subsequent cooling dip in the sea.

In addition to our physical preparation, we also set out to raise more money than the previous year for the NSPCC charity. We are proud to report that we raised over £5000 in sponsorship. We also staged our big charity event, the Rufus Leonard World Cup party. Just one week after our success in Scotland, football fever hit the studio and a total of £1,500 was raised in just one night. We’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who contributed.
