Microsoft challenge complete
01 September 2005
The event that dominated the early summer of 2005 was Rufus Leonard’s entry in the Microsoft Challenge event, which took place in the Cambrian Mountains and is billed as the UK’s greatest team-building challenge.
After several months of pre-event training the original team of a hopefuls was whittled down to a hardcore seven. These seven spent three days being tested as they had never been tested before in a gruelling programme of fell-running, mountain-biking and kayaking across challenging terrain. There were also mental challenges – problem solving and observation and strategic tests. And above all there was learning to work as a team.
There were 125 teams taking part and most of them were from large corporations with hundreds of employees. So for a small company like Rufus Leonard, finishing 50th was a huge achievement. Even more so was coming 12th in the fundraising league table and receiving a special mention at the Awards Ceremony as “one team” that really stood out”.
