British Gas announce lead digital agency

British Gas are pleased to announce that we signed Rufus Leonard as our new lead digital agency on the first of May 2009.
 
Benjamin Braun, Head of Online Services at British Gas said that “Visitors to britishgas.co.uk spend on average 10 minutes on our site. What would you do if you had a prospect or a customer in front of you for 10 minutes? We need to create the best engaging online experience. Rufus Leonard has a proven record in creating brand led experiences online that will promote sales, facilitate online customer services and accelerate brand engagement”.
 
Since britishgas.co.uk was launched in 2007, the site has evolved from pure brochureware to a fully transactional site. Online is a key channel for sales, servicing and customer engagement and continues to grow in importance to British Gas with almost half a million visits to the site weekly.

Over the last three months, we have been inviting agencies to pitch for the role of lead digital agency. A hidden message in the pitch documentation led agencies to a YouTube challenge asking them to devise a 60-second film as part of their pitch.
 
Rufus Leonard will work closely with our other agencies and internal departments to enhance online customer experience, navigation, look and feel and customer journeys. They will act as online guardians and lead the way on site redesign strategy and develop the strategic vision for online sales, online self service and online customer engagement.

We will retain our existing specialist media and search agencies. The selection of Rufus Leonard does not impact our existing offline and above the line agencies (i.e. CHI, Landor and Ogilvy).
