“THANK YOU TO THE TEAMS AT RUFUS LEONARD AND POCKET APP FOR HELPING US INNOVATE TO BUILD A MORE SUSTAINABLE FUTURE FOR OUR WORLD."
By Rufus Leonard in the news
WWF UK’s gamified My Footprint app, created in partnership with Rufus Leonard and Pocket App, has won UK App of the Year, Education App of the Year, Best Design / UX, and Best New App of the Year at this year’s UK App Awards.
Faced with the intimidating task of reversing climate change fast, the challenge-based app answers the question on many people’s lips, ‘How can I help the environment?' by encouraging users to discover challenges, tasks and tips to help them reduce their environmental impact.
Built to truly encourage behavioural change and bend the 2030 climate curve, the app leans into gamification by showing the fun in creating and sticking to new habits that are practical for all the family – keeping users coming back every day to update on their progress, and inspiring long-lasting, small changes to make a big difference.
Social sharing is also highly encouraged throughout the app, to help amplify the message and galvanise family and friends.
All content is underpinned by storytelling and the app is packed with relevant articles that show WWF UK’s efforts and impact, plus the part supporters are playing.
A comment from Darragh Field, Director of Digital & Content at WWF UK
“We have a very real objective to set the agenda on environmental issues and drive real world change at a faster pace – this award goes a long way in sharing that mission and shining a light on the new, inventive ways we are trying to accomplish it. My Footprint has become one of our main channels for supporter engagement and allowed us to set ambitious objectives. The app has continued to evolve based on this clear roadmap which reacts to the app’s community feedback and usage.”
“We knew there was a strong appetite, among current supporters and newcomers alike, for simple, accessible information on the many small changes that can make a big difference to the planet. Developing an app was a key part of WWF UK leading the way in supporting people to do that, and we’re really proud to see My Footprint has truly helped people make those changes with tangible action and advice. Thank you to the teams at Rufus Leonard and Pocket App for helping us innovate to build a more sustainable future for our world.”
